GRAMMAR

Unit 0: Verbal Tenses

Unit 1: Relative clauses

Defining and non defining clauses.

Relatives and prepositions. 

Omission of the relative

Unit 3: Complex clauses:

Contrast: although, though, even though,, despite (the fact that) , in spite of (the fact that), nevertheless, however.

Purpose: to, in order(not) to, so as (not) to + infinitive, so( that) + clause

Reason: as, since, because, because of ( + noun), for this reason, due to (the fact that)

Result:

a ) so… that / such … that

b) not + adjective or adverb +enough/  too+ adjective or adverb+ to infinitive

c) as a result, as a consequence,  consequently, for that reason, therefore, thus.

Unit 4: Reported speech

Statements,  questions (yes/ no questions and wh questions), requests and commands

Use of say and tell.

Unit 5: Passives

Passive with two objects.

Passive with reporting verbs (it is said that../ he is said to...)

Have/ get something done

Unit 6: Conditionals

Three types.

Modal verbs in conditionals

Don't forget variants in the if clause and in the main clause.

Conditional linkers: if/ whether/ unless/ even if/in case/ provided that/ on condition that/ as long as...

I wish/ if only

For wishes (+ simple past or past continous)

For regrets ( + past perfect)

For complaints ( + would + infinitive)

As a noun ( as a subject or object), after prepositions and after certain verbs

Infinitive uses.

After nouns and pronouns, after adjectives and adverbs, after question words ( except why) and after certain verbs.

Let, make, help + bare infinitive

Verbs with a change of meaning

Verbs of the senses  (see, watch, hear, ...)+ bare infinitive or gerund.
Forget, remember, regret, stop, try +  to infinitive or gerund.
