   He wanted Marlowe to take Geiger off his back.

   He didn't like taking orders from other people. He liked to be his own boss.
3. Did the general like Rusty Reagan, Vivian’s husband? Why?
   Yes, he liked him a lot because he was great fun. Besides nobody dared to blackmail him when Rusty was there.

   He was blackmailing Carmen

    Bernie told him they had found a body inside a car underwater. He tried to get some information from Marlowe

    His body was found underwater inside Vivian's car. Somebody had hit him on the head previously, so it was murder.
19. Who ran after Owen and Carmen when they had tried to run off together?
    Vivian, Carmen's sister, ran after them and they had to come back
20. Where did they take the books in Geiger's bookshop to?
    They were taken to Brody's apartment.
21. How is Vivian going to get the five thousand dollar they demanded for Carmen's photos in Geiger's house?
    Eddie Mars will give her the money.
22. Who killed Geiger according to Carmen?
    Carmen said that she had seen Brody killing Geiger. She told Brody she wanted her pictures back. Marlowe got them in the end.

    In Marlowe's opinion Owen was in love with Carmen and he didn't like what Geiger was doing to her.
